Blessing of the wine of the New Year
27 / 01 / 2021  |  Bordeaux  |  Download
This year, Saint Vincent, which celebrates the patron saint of winegrowers, was unable to give rise to the usual festival which brings together some 700 people in a friendly atmosphere.
The Commanderie du Bontemps and its members nevertheless wished to carry out the blessing of the wine of the New Year, a tradition that has been going on for 50 years.

The ceremony, which took place on January 27, 2021, is marked by two major events: it was held in the Church of Saint Rémi de Bacalan, recently renovated and located in the historic district of the Bordeaux trade, and was officiated by the Archbishop of Bordeaux, Monsignor Jean-Paul James, assisted by Father Francis Ayliès.

The Saint-Vincent
Deacon and martyr of the 4th century, Vincent de Zaragoza is the patron saint of winegrowers. Saint-Vincent is held according to the years in Médoc, Graves, Sauternais or Bordeaux. Always friendly and warm, this festival brings together women and men who work all year round in the vineyards, in the cellars and vats, in the different departments of the estates, the Trading houses and the brokerage offices.

Saint Rémi de Bacalan Church
Located close to the City of Wine, the church of Saint Rémi de Bacalan is renewed. It wants to manifest the immense richness of wine references in the Bible. Through this "parabolic language", the stories speak of God, of his connection to each one of us, of his project for humanity, of our faith, of of our daily lives.
Beyond the words of Christ in John’s Gospel chapter 15: "I am the Vine, you are the branches and my Father is the Vine-grower.", there are also many other references: from the Cluster of Escol to the sign of Cana, from the drunkenness of Noah to that of life in the Spirit of Pentecost, from the Cup of the Covenant to the Blood of Christ.
Through artistic works, these stories will be presented as an invitation to reflection.
Saint Rémi will also be a place of expression. Singing, theatre, readings, concerts and conferences will be welcome.
