This tasting competition for wine-appreciation clubs from the leading higher-education establishments was first held in 2002.
Following an initial contact with the presidents of the clubs concerned early in the year, the elimination rounds and semi-finals are held in Paris in April.
Among the ten teams taking part in the opening rounds, only two are selected to face the British teams at the finals in the Médoc in June.
The competition includes multiple-choice questionnaires, presentations, and blind-tasting tests.
Students who have competed in this event, which attracts keen wine-lovers, attended Ecole Centrale, ENA, ENGREF, ENS, ESCP-EAP, ESSEC, HEC, INA, Ecole des Mines, Polytechnique, Sciences-Po, and Dauphine University, Oxford and Cambridge.
The 2011 edition of the competition will take a greater international dimension open to universities from other countries in Europe, North America and Asia.
The competition will follow the formula of the famous America's Cup: Challenger North America, Asia and Europe will challenge at the final held at Chateau Lafite Rothschild, June 17, ahead of Bordeaux VINEXPO.
